La Federacion Peruana de Futbol (FPF) have announced the Peru squad for the 2016 Copa America Centenario tournament.
Oddly enough, the roster was referred to as “provisional”, meaning we could still see some changes before the 20 May deadline.
La Blanquirroja will face Haiti, Ecuador and Brazil in Group B of the highly anticipated tournament, held in the United States from 3 to 26 June.
Following numerous speculation and several leaked lists, the national team chiefs finally announced the roster selected by head coach Ricardo Gareca, who served just one minor surprise.
The experienced tactician decided to call Cesar Vallejo midfielder Alejandro Hohberg, with Alexander Callens missing out.
Gareca had already caused a great deal of controversy by leaving star players Jefferson Farfan, Claudio Pizarro, Luis Advincula and Juan Manuel Vargas from the provisional list, with Gianluca Lapadula also failing to make the cut.
Peru will be heading to the 2016 Copa America Centenario hoping to show some improvement following some disappointing results in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and they are expected to line up in 4-2-3-1 formation.
