Wolfsburg midfielder Francisco Rodriguez has rejected the opportunity to represent Chile in the friendly match against Paraguay, it has been revealed.
The 19-year-old was selected in Jorge Sampaoli’s squad for the Paraguay friendly, but he has decided to withdraw from the roster seeing as he has yet to make a decision on which national team to represent in the future.
“I want to thank the Federation of Chile for the efforts and the high esteem they have given me,” Rodriguez told Swiss Football Federation’s official website.
“I told the Chilean team that I do not want to make the final decision on the senior national team at the moment.”
Rodriguez has now twice failed to honour a Chile call-up having also been named in La Roja squad back in August 2014.
The talented footballer, whose older brother Ricardo Rodriguez is a key player in the Switzerland national team, continues to play for Switzerland Under-21’s as his international future remains in doubt.
The former Zurich midfielder joined Wolfsburg earlier this summer and he has so far made two appearance for the reserves in Germany’s fourth tier.
Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli will probably need to call at least one new player seeing that David Pizarro and Charles Aranguiz had withdrawn from the original roster due to injury.
